2013 Polaris® Ranger® XP® 900 EPS Preview
Fully intent on crushing every other premium UTV side-by-side in the industry, Polaris® returns with a next-generation Ranger® XP® for 2013. Expect this one to redefine the company's "Hardest Working, Smoothest Riding" motto, bringing even more muscle and capability to the trail.
The 2013 Polaris® Ranger® XP® 900 boasts a new "centre spine" chassis with greater rigidity and a 5" longer wheelbase. There's also 1" of extra rear suspension travel for a class-leading 10" of travel. Add 12" of ground clearance, and you get the smoothest, most stable ride in Ranger® history, Polaris® claims.
Of course, there's no overlooking the available Electric Power Steering (EPS), which will greatly reduce steering effort, even with added weight on the front (like a heavy plow).
The fuel-injected ProStar 900 engine produces 60 horsepower (10 more than the ProStar 800) and class-leading torque, although it should be noted that the same 875cc unit delivers 88 hp in the sportier RZR® XP 900. The 2013 Polaris® Ranger® XP® 900's new engine management system also contributes to smooth acceleration, reduced vibration, and greater fuel economy.
Together with the transmission and drivetrain (featuring the strongest belt ever in a Ranger®), the 4-stroke, DOHC twin-cylinder is now located under the cargo bed to keep the cabin quieter and cooler. True on-demand AWD/2WD with VersaTrac Turf Mode is part of the mix, too.
And the rest... Other upgrades to the 2013 Polaris® Ranger® XP® 900 include the revolutionary Pro-Fit Cab (installation and removal can be done in just a few minutes), and 25% brighter headlights that offer more than 100 feet of additional visibility in nighttime operation. Look for a 1,500 lb payload, and 2,000 lb towing capacity.
Polaris® has yet to announce a 4-passenger Crew® version of the Ranger® XP® 900, but that may come soon enough. In the meantime, the 2013 Polaris® Ranger® XP® 900 is available in three base trim levels (starting at $14,799), as well as four limited edition models (starting at $15,699). EPS is a $1,100 option.
