Are you a performance-minded snowmobile enthusiast looking for a missile to scorch some bumpy trails? There's great selection out there this year. Returning with no major changes except a sleek new white package, the 2014 Polaris® 800 Rush® Pro-R takes sharp handling and quick acceleration to new levels. It also promises precise cornering and class-leading comfort over big bumps.

The 800cc and 600cc base models are gone, effectively replaced by new 800 and 600 Indy® models. Just like the 800 Indy® SP we recently previewed, the 2014 Polaris® 800 Rush® Pro-R is powered by the liquid-cooled 800 Cleanfire engine with semi-direct injection. It carries a little more weight (464 lb vs. 449 lb), but still packs 160 hp.

The 795-cc, 2-stroke, twin-cylinder engine starts easily and reliably, then calibrates automatically as the temperature and elevation change. Polaris® says it's also efficient for long-range operation (especially with a 41.6-litre tank), not to mention quiet (the muffler has been designed to keep noise levels and overall weight in check).

In case you're wondering, this engine is the only thing that separates the 2014 Polaris® 800 Rush® Pro-R from the lower-tier 600 Rush® Pro-R. Both models transfer power to the ground via a 15"x121"x1.25" RipSaw track. Interestingly, the tunnel is designed in a way that allows you to stud up to a 1.75" track for extra grip.

The 2014 Polaris® 800 Rush® Pro-R obviously relies on the revolutionary Pro-Ride platform - the ideal choice for a nimble-handling sled that's perfect for tight or rough trails. In this application, you'll find exclusive Walker Evans shocks with 16-position compression adjusters and remote reservoirs that offer the most tuning possibilities. The Pro-Ride progressive-rate rear suspension (the single biggest difference between the Rush® Pro-R and Indy® SP) offers 14" of travel, resists bottoming through the use of a unique needle shock design, and virtually eliminates undesirable vibrations.

Meanwhile, the race-proven independent front suspension features a patented variable caster design that neutralizes bump steer and improves overall handling. Developed in conjunction with the Polaris® Racing program, its performance and durability were proven in extensive on and off trail testing. Moreover, this new suspension combines with Pro-Steer skis featuring a reshaped keel to reduce steering effort by 20%.

The one-piece handlebar comes with heater elements that extend to the ends of the bar for greater hand comfort. The wide Pro-Ride Adventure seat is said to enhance comfort during long days on the snow, while its tapered front end allows easy transitions between seated and standing positions.

Available accessories and options include, among others, an electric starter, 12V outlet, rear cargo rack, tow hitch, and security system.

Pricing for the 2014 Polaris® 800 Rush® Pro-R remains at $13,499.
